Understanding of Testnet
A Testnet is the Minimum Viable Product (MVP) of a blockchain project. It is designed to let developers test out new concepts without affecting or harming the essential components of the product. Its major function is to solicit suggestions from developers and community members to gauge how the community feels about the mainnet’s design.
The Mainnet changes may be implemented without significant issues thanks to the Testnet. This is because a dummy run of the process is first performed on the Testnet. The testnet is where development teams post changes, where they make use of the chance to perform their analysis. They are looking for code mistakes or checking how the new programming affects the test blockchain during this procedure.
Testnet-like networks employ their cryptocurrency, a duplicate of the asset from the primary chain. The original coins’ public blockchains are unaffected by interactions with them. Quai Network Bronze Age Testnet
Quai Network announced the launch of the Bronze Age Testnet on February 18th and it was scheduled to conclude on March 23rd. The Bronze Age Testnet is the second official Testnet for Quai Network, with the goal of stress-testing many new developments from the Stone Age Testnet. Participants of the Bronze Age Testnet earned rewards for running a miner/node, deploying smart contracts, and sending transactions on Quai.
The Bronze Age Testnet organized participants into three roles: Spartans, Architects, and Citizens. All roles played a crucial part in the success of the Testnet and were rewarded accordingly.
The rewards schedule for Quai Network’s Bronze Age Testnet went thus:
- Spartans:- Quai Network’s Spartans’ work was to defend Quai from malicious activity and confirm legitimate transactions by running miners and nodes.
Spartans received bonus incentives for each block mined in addition to rewards based on node/miner uptime. 1000 $QUAI was the starting reward for setting up a node, and an extra 5000 $QUAI was paid based on uptime. 1500 $QUAI served as the starting reward for installing and running a miner, and an extra $1 $QUAI was awarded for each block mined.
The relevant Quai Network Status pages needed to be connected by the node/miner to receive rewards. Throughout the Testnet, Quai Network permitted up to 800 Spartans to receive incentives, with a cap of three rewards per Spartan. Even if more blocks got mined, each Quai miner’s Mainnet $QUAI reward was capped at 100,000.
- Architects:- Developing projects and smart contracts that translate Quai’s amazing breakthroughs into practical applications was the responsibility of Quai Architects.
Because Quai Network is EVM compatible, you can already build for it if you are familiar with Solidity. Quai is poised to become a hotspot for developers looking for EVM compatibility without the hefty expenses, even though Ethereum, given its age, has many more developer tools.
Architects received 10 $QUAI for each contract they deployed as payment for construction on Quai. For the length of the Bronze Age Testnet, architects were eligible to receive prizes of up to 5000 $QUAI.
- Citizens:- Citizens do not mine or build on Quai Network, but they were essential nonetheless. The vast majority of a blockchain’s activity is from everyday users who transact on the network. Quai Network recognized the value of these users and rewarded them for transacting on-chain.
Citizens earned 1 $QUAI for each transaction sent on the Quai Network as compensation. The maximum prize for citizens was $1000 QUAI.
Analysis, Conclusion & Learnings from the Bronze Age Testnet
The Bronze Age Testnet was wildly successful. Within the short timeframe, the team witnessed the following:
- 1,700 nodes come online.
- 1.4 million blocks were successfully mined across the network.
- 110K+ transactions completed.
- 1,070 unique miners participate.
- 2,089 unique mining addresses mine blocks.
The testnet’s improvements to the core protocol and Quai Network’s supporting toolkit were among its many advantages. They had the chance to test the analytics pages, explorer, faucet, and wallet on the Bronze Age Testnet even though they are still in Alpha.
The testnet demonstrated Quai Network’s capacity to function at a large scale as an open, permissionless, and appropriately decentralized protocol. Increasing the number of nodes and miners worldwide and further decentralizing the protocol are the objectives.
The penultimate week of the testnet saw the greatest increase in transaction volume on the Bronze Age Testnet. Over the years, involvement increased dramatically from 5,000 different network addresses. Decreased transaction propagation delays and a successful faucet launch led to this boost in transaction throughput.
